Understanding Your PAL Card

What is it?

The Powered Access Licence (PAL) Card is proof that you have successfully completed training to operate MEWPs, MCWPs, or Construction Hoists. It is globally recognised in over 51 countries as the standard for operator competence.

To qualify for a PAL Card, operators must complete an IPAF training course and pass a test at an approved centre. The programme is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878.

Manage Your Qualification

Renewal Training

Your PAL Card is valid for 5 years. You must take a renewal course before it expires to remain legal and compliant on site.

Lost Card?

If you lose a physical card, contact your training centre for a replacement fee. However, your digital licence in the ePAL app is always safe.

Verify Validity

Use the online verification tool to check if a card is genuine. Simply enter the licence number to view the operator’s details.

Go Digital with ePAL

Since June 2021, PAL Cards are issued digitally via the free ePAL app. This puts your licence, logbook, and safety guides directly on your phone. It’s secure, convenient, and allows site managers to verify your card instantly.

Fraud Warning

IPAF is aware of sophisticated attempts to forge PAL Cards. To beat fraudsters:

  • Check Online: Verify cards at www.ipaf.org/checkpal.
  • Scan QR: Use the ePAL app to scan the operator’s digital licence.
  • Visual Check: Look for the holographic logo and signature on physical cards.

If in doubt, contact IPAF Head Office immediately.
