IPAF 1a Static Vertical Training – Push-Around & Vertical Mast Lifts
IPAF Category 1a covers Static Vertical MEWPs – push-around vertical lifts, vertical mast lifts and similar static-base scissor-style machines that are manoeuvred manually when stowed and elevated vertically when in use. Common in indoor maintenance, signage, lighting, retail fit-out and AV installation work.
What machines does IPAF 1a cover?
- Push-around vertical lifts (e.g. Genie GR/GRC, JLG Toucan, Skyjack vertical)
- Vertical mast lifts (push-around or self-propelled but small-footprint)
- Trailer-mounted static masts in some configurations

Course outline
One-day programme combining classroom theory (machine categorisation, hazards, pre-use inspection, safe systems of work, emergency rescue) with hands-on practical operation of a 1a-category machine. Includes IPAF theory test and practical assessment.

Combine 1a with other categories
If you also use scissor lifts or boom lifts, consider taking 1a alongside 3a/3b in the same week to save time and money. Combined categories share the theory component.
