What is IPAF 1b?
Category 1b covers static booms: MEWPs that have outriggers and cannot be driven while elevated.

1b Training FAQ
Common questions about static boom courses.
Can I drive the machine from the basket?
No. If you can drive while elevated, you need a 3b (Mobile Boom) license. 1b machines must be static with outriggers deployed to elevate.
Do I need a harness?
Yes, IPAF strongly recommends a full body harness with an adjustable restraint lanyard for all boom type platforms, including 1b static booms.
Can I add this to a 3a/3b course?
Sometimes. Depending on time and machine availability, it may be possible to combine, but 1b is often a standalone day due to the specific setup training required.
Do you provide the machine?
At our centres, yes. For on-site training, you usually provide the machine (e.g., your own van mount), but we can arrange hire if needed.
