What is a PAL Card?

Proof of Competence

The PAL Card (Powered Access Licence) is proof that the operator has successfully completed training to operate MEWPs, MCWPs, or Construction Hoists. It is issued by IPAF to operators who pass a test at an approved training centre.

Developed by leading industry professionals and certified by TÜV to ISO 18878, the PAL Card is the global standard for safety. With over 2 million cards issued worldwide, it is the most widely recognised proof of training in the powered access industry.

Verify & Prevent Fraud

End users and managers must check PAL Cards to ensure site safety. Fraudsters use sophisticated techniques, so always verify:

1. Online Check

Visit www.ipaf.org/checkpal. Enter the licence number (e.g., OP/1234567) to see the operator’s details.

2. Scan ePAL

Use the ePAL app to scan the digital card’s QR code. This provides instant, live verification.

3. Visual Check

For physical cards, look for the holographic IPAF logo on the reverse (top left) and the cardholder’s signature.

Suspect a fake? Contact IPAF immediately on +44 (0)15395 66700.
