Step up from operator to expert. The IPAF Demonstrator course qualifies you to familiarise other operators with MEWPs and conduct handover procedures.

Learn the skills required to safely handover machines and demonstrate their use to operators.
Understand your responsibilities under PUWER. You are not training operators from scratch (that’s an Instructor’s job), but ensuring they know the specific controls of a machine.
Learn the correct procedure for handing over a MEWP to a client or operator, including visual checks, documentation, and demonstrating emergency lowering.
You MUST already hold a valid IPAF Operator PAL Card for the categories you wish to demonstrate (e.g., 3a, 3b). This is a top-up qualification.
Includes a theory test on legislation and machine types, followed by a practical assessment where you must deliver a familiarisation session to the instructor.
The core competencies of an IPAF Demonstrator.
The skill of showing an operator the specific controls, safety devices, and characteristics of a machine they haven’t used before.
Conducting Pre-Delivery Inspections and ensuring all relevant manuals and logs are present before handing over keys.
Demonstrating ground controls and auxiliary lowering systems to ensure ground staff can rescue an operator if needed.
From Operator to Demonstrator in simple steps.
Ensure your current Operator PAL Card is valid for the categories you want to demonstrate.
Select a date at our training centre. The course takes one full day.
Complete the theory module and perform a practical familiarisation demonstration.
Pass the assessment to have the ‘Demonstrator’ category added to your 5-year license.
Check if you are ready for the Demonstrator course.
Note: Operator license must be in date.
Take on more responsibility and enhance your value on site.
Understanding the limits of your qualification.
A Demonstrator shows an *already trained* operator the specific controls of a new machine model. This is ‘familiarisation’.
An Instructor teaches a novice how to operate a MEWP from scratch. A Demonstrator cannot conduct full operator training or issue PAL cards.
Demonstrators are key for hire companies, ensuring clients know how to use the specific equipment delivered to site safely.
“I work for a hire company and this course was essential. I now feel confident handing over machines to customers.”
