Operator Training Modules

We offer specific training for every type of powered access machine you might encounter on site.

Mobile Vertical (3a)

Training for scissor lifts and vertical platforms that can be driven while elevated. Essential for indoor maintenance, fit-outs, and warehousing.

Mobile Boom (3b)

Training for self-propelled booms (cherry pickers). Learn to control articulation and outreach to access difficult-to-reach areas over obstacles.

Static Boom (1b)

For vehicle-mounted platforms, trailers, and spider lifts that use outriggers for stability. Critical for highways, telecoms, and arboriculture.

Safety & Rescue

All operator courses include modules on risk assessment, pre-use inspection, harness awareness (for booms), and emergency lowering procedures.

Operator FAQ

Common questions about the operator course.

Do I need a driving license?

No, a standard driving license is not required for IPAF operator training (unless driving a truck-mounted platform on the road). You must be 16+ and physically fit.

How many categories can I do in a day?

You can typically complete two categories (e.g., 3a and 3b) in a single training day. Adding a third category usually requires an additional day.

What happens if I fail the theory?

Our instructors provide excellent tuition to help you pass. If you do fail the theory, you cannot proceed to the practical, but re-tests can be arranged.

Do I need to bring my own harness?

For boom lift training (3b/1b), a harness is required. We can usually provide one for the training day, but we recommend having your own fitted gear for work.
